Bay area designers Matt Wolpe, Ralph Stampone, and Henry Boyle will show their projects and talk about designing with plywood.

Ralph Stampone
SWING TABLE
Ralph graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in industrial design. With an emphasis in furniture design, he has experience working in custom metal and wood shops.

Henry Boyle
RTA (Ready to Assemble) DESK
An industrial designer by training, Henry designs products based largely on the experience people will have using them and their sustainable existence. He holds a BFA in industrial design from the Rhode Island School of Design and works and resides in the San Francisco Bay area.

Matt Wolpe
PLANE TABLE
Matt makes furniture and teaches furniture making at the Crucible in Oakland, CA. One of his classes is called “One Sheet of Plywood: Design/Build.” His primary interest is engaging design on a variety of scales, including urban planning, living structures, and furniture.

PlyDesign presents 73 ideas for sleek, smart home furnishings that you can make from off-the-shelf sheet materials using only basic hand and power tools. With designs contributed by more than 50 creative builders across North America, the projects include tables, stools, workstations, benches, laptop stands, shelves, art panels, organizers, headboards, doghouses, dollhouses, and more. A photo of each finished project is accompanied by a list of needed tools and materials, cutting and assembly diagrams, and clear step-by-step instructions. 

Philip Schmidt writes about houses and all the things we do with them. A former carpenter, he is the author of many books, including PlyDesign, Decorating with Architectural Details and Build Your Kids a Treehouse. He lives in Colorado with is wife, two daughters, and loads of leftover building materials.
