As the book hits the shelves, the Quilting with a Modern Slant blog tour kicked off yesterday with a post by Becky of the quilting blog Patchwork Posse. Becky was inspired by the Fraction Quilt Block that she saw in the book, and made her own version, which she used on a quilted pillow. I love the use of solid blues and yellow on a gray print fabric background.
Over the next few weeks, many quilting bloggers will be sharing their experiences with Quilting with a Modern Slant, including Ayumi of Pink Penguin, Cheryl of Dining Room Empire, Nova of A Cuppa and a Catchup, Jeni of In Color Order, and Lindsay and Mary of Craft Buds, as well as many of the quilters who contributed their stories and designs to the book. Be sure to take a look at the new Quilting with a Modern Slant blog, which is run by author Rachel May, to read more about all of the contributors. We hope to encourage you to explore the many creative ways to quilt!
Preparing for the release of Quilting with a Modern Slant inspired me to sew a baby quilt for my new nephew this Christmas. Rather than piecing the quilt top, I chose to make a whole cloth quilt with a modern gray chevron for the back and a fun gray and yellow leaf pattern for the front, which I knew would match his room. I’m new to quilting so I hand-tied the quilt, which gave it a homemade feel, but next time I hope to spend more time learning how to machine or hand stitch to finish the quilt.
