Spike Carlsen will host two demos on Saturday. In his “Three Projects in 30 Minutes” demonstration, Spike will show customers how to build his Houdini Wine Rack, a mystifying wine bottle holder constructed using little more than a jigsaw, drill, and a short chunk of 1x6; the Leopold Bench, perfect for afternoons out in the garden; and a router roost that provides a safe, convenient place to store both the aforementioned router and a host of other woodworking tools. During the demo, Spike will talk with the audience about common woodworking quandaries and offer solutions to queries posed. He will round out his talk with a presentation and discussion of unique woods and uses of woods – wood oddities for the curious and inquisitive.

Spike Carlsen is the author of A Splintered History of Wood and former executive editor of Family Handyman magazine. He has been working with wood for more than 30 years, and his articles have appeared in Old House Journal, Fine Homebuilding, and American Woodworker.
