You Can't Get Chicks Without a Rooster!
Fertility on The Chicken Encyclopedia Blog Tour

We talked a little bit about the chicken and the egg conundrum on yesterday's The Chicken Encyclopedia Blog Tour stop and we talk a little more about it today.  This time, however, Max the rooster gets center stage over on the Chicken Chick's blog, ADozenGirlz

While you should definitely click on over to ADozenGirlz to read Max's full story (he gets to ride in a limo? I've never even ridden in a limo!), I will slip in a little spoiler and let you know he did become a proud papa - even if it was in absentia
I do admit to having lost count of the number of Max's chicks that hatched over the past month since his departure, that's one of the symptoms of  being a hatch-a-holic, but I do know that the very last egg in the incubator hatched tonight and it was from an egg that was collected 12 days after Max was last with the hens. He must have read the book.
[Gail Damerow writes in The Chicken Encyclopedia that "The average duration of fertility is about 10 days"]
So many chicks that The Chicken Chick lost count? And that's even taking into consideration the eggs lost to her 4-year-old daughter's egg-cracking experiments - like I said, you've got to click on over to read the full story

And while you're there, make sure to enter the Chicken Chick's contest for your chance to win your own copy of Gail Damerow's The Chicken Encyclopedia.

We have one more blog left on our tour and I can't wait to read it! See you tomorrow!
