The Essential Ingredient for an Urban Chicken Coop?
Find out on The Chicken Encyclopedia Blog Tour

With a blog named "Coop Thoughts" you can probably guess what today's blogger on The Chicken Encyclopedia Blog Tour decided to write about!

John and his family live in Portland, OR, where they keep eight laying hens in their backyard. We all know that chicken-keeping isn't just a rural endeavor any longer - more and more suburban and urban chicophiles are keeping small flocks in small spaces. And, while challenging, they also find it vastly rewarding.

However, when it comes to coops and neighbors, John did have one piece of advice to add to chicken-expert Gail Damerow's list of chicken coop essentials:
And while it’s not central to the definition, there’s one thing I would add to her [Gail Damerow's] list of ideal coop attributes, especially if you’re keeping chickens in an sub-/urban setting: It has to be nice to look at. You can certainly get by otherwise, but you and your nearest neighbors will be happier if you build something that’s worth admiring.
We definitely agree, John, and very much enjoyed looking through the coop photos on your blog. We wouldn't mind being your neighbor at all!

Click on over to Coop Thoughts to see for yourself - and while you're there enter John's contest to win a copy of Gail Damerow's The Chicken Encyclopedia.

And don't forget to check back in tomorrow as we continue The Chicken Encyclopedia Blog Tour!

The rank, and arguably most eminent entity you should do prior to business your DIY chickenhearted coop is inspection topical regulations. Every metropolis has it's own set of "poultry laws", whatsoever circumscribe the wares of hens you're allowed, piece others hold no end, but instead bed exacting rules most the size or pattern of the coop.
