Growing Power!

Will Allen Video Profile from Sonia Narang on Vimeo. Here's an inspiring video profile of Will Allen and his nonprofit organization Growing Power in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Will is one of over 50 people and organizations that will be featured in our upcoming book Reclaiming Our Food: How the Grassroots Food Movement Is Changing the Way We Eat by Tanya Denckla Cobb.

In a partnership with the City of Milwaukee, Growing Power has been tasked to create up to 150 full-time jobs for low-income city residents. According to Will, “This new jobs program will provide fresh fruits and vegetables in neighborhoods that often lack a single healthy option—and will serve as an example to other cities of how a local food system can be remodeled to create jobs and heal communities.”

You can find out more about this undertaking here, and if you haven't already, check out our book trailer for Reclaiming Our Food. We sent a small film crew to talk to the folks at Indian Line Farm in the Berkshires (one of the first Community Supported Agriculture [CSA] farms in the United States) and Australis fish farm in Turners Falls, Massachusetts. Both are featured in the book, and both are committed to finding new ways to provide local food for their communities.

How is the grassroots food movement changing the way you eat?
